Week 1 – Project


Well I am tardy with this post, it is better late than never!

For my first project I took something that I found posted to Pinterest that was inspired from an store creation. 

I have taken the lyrics to my wedding song and printed them out in the shape of a heart, with a photo of my husband and I on our wedding day in the background.   Once I have it printed out and laminated (so he can take it with him when he is away)  I will post the finished product here!


I used this tutorial to get me through this.

Using the words that you would like as the text – (mine were the lyrics to Lost in This Moment – Big & Rich)

Then embed your photo in the background of the shape.

Send to the printer (or photo center of your choice!)

Laminate or frame.

I am laminating mine so that I can give it to my husband who is going to be travelling away for the next 9 months.  However I may do this in another variation closer to the one in the pin that I will frame to display at home.




Week 2 – Recipe


Well week one was a flop for me!  But Jenn did an ah-maz-ing! job on it!  Can’t wait to visit home and have this for brunch! *hinthint*

So Week 2 even though Jenn beat me to it and chose a recipe, I took on something that I’ve been making forever, and added something that I’ve been hearing everyone on the healthy train talk about!

I took my tried and true Shepherds pie, and added Cauliflower to my mashed potatoes!  I know luxurious right??  lol I was skeptical of how this would work out so I did a ratio of 1:3 cauliflower to potatoes.  Literally just adding the cauliflower to the boiling water with potatoes.  So simple so easy and dang nabbit…yummy to boot!  Can’t wait to do this again with an equal ratio of potatoes to cauliflower and then hopefully more cauliflower than potatoes! 

Now to figure out the project!

Week 2 – Recipe


So its winter…at least according to the calendar!!! Despite the fact that I have most of the windows open in the house today and ran to the store in a t-shirt, I’ve still been craving soup! I’m a bit of a picky soup eater, but will almost never turn down tomato!!!

I saw this recipe a few weeks ago and have been thinking about it since! Off work today, and decided it was a good time as there was a bit of prep. It actually was pretty quick and I think it would be easy to make up the night before, then stick in the crock pot in the morning.

I still need to tackle the roux, but first a nap and off to get my nails done!

Week 1 – Recipe


Broccoli Cheese Breakfast Casserole from Kayln’s Kitchen

I love casseroles of all variety.  They are generally fast, easy, and something that the whole family loves…and really in our house…who doesn’t love breakfast?!  So I figured this was a great receipe to start with.  Can’t wait to tell you about the outcome.

Ok…so I butchered the heck out of this recipe!!!

I used 2 over sized ramekins, 3 big heads of broccoli, about 2 TBSPs of sauteed onions, 4 eggs, a splash of milk, about 1/2 cup of cheese and sprinkle of some seasoning….salt, pepper, chilli flakes and white cheddar powder.

Layered the ramekin with broccoli, onions, cheese, then poured the milk/egg/seasoning (already mixed up) over and baked for 25 mins @ 350.

Turned out much better then I thought it might, considering my dislike for cooked broccoli! Thinking this might become a bit of a staple…..especially with some peppers and maybe tomatoes thrown in!!!

Would be really fun to do for a brunch and let everyone custom make their own!

Hello 2012!


New Year, New Beginnings, New Projects…or at least that’s what we’re hoping!

So we’re both pretty addicted to Pinterest. If you haven’t checked it out, do so! Now!! Its like an online bulletin board where you can save recipes, projects, pictures of places you want to visit, favorite quotes, and just about anything else you can find online. Way better then using bookmarks!

But that’s only part of it. You can also see what everyone else on Pinterest is saving, then re-Pin those things to your own boards. Start, and a few hours later you’ll wonder what happened! Biggest time suck of 2011!!!!!

And that’s where we are today! We both have a ton of stuff pinned, with great intentions of making all these fantastic recipes and tackling the great projects. When do you ever have the time though?!?! So we have decided to tackle a recipe and a project a week, every week, for 2012!

Will it get done??? Going in with the best of intentions, we decided to blog our year to keep accountable, post pictures and just generally spend some much needed time together!

So…here we go!
